Mosede Fort, Coastal fortification in Mosede, Denmark.
Mosede Fort is a coastal fortification located south of Copenhagen on the Sound coast. The site contains several underground bunkers with gun emplacements, casemates, officer quarters, and ammunition storage areas that remain largely intact.
The fort was built in 1916 and formed part of the Tunestillingen defense line stretching from Mosede toward Roskilde Fjord. It represented Denmark's military buildup during World War I when the nation sought to maintain independence while avoiding the conflict.
The fort demonstrates how Denmark sought to protect itself while maintaining neutrality during the early 20th century conflict. Visitors can observe uniforms, weapons, and personal items that belonged to soldiers stationed here.
The site is best reached by car as public transport options are limited to the area. Wear sturdy footwear when exploring the underground sections since the ground can be uneven throughout the bunker system.
The bunkers originally housed rapid-fire cannon positions and machine gun placements that remain visible today. These weapons were positioned specifically to protect the strategically important Sound Strait passage.
