Odins Bro, Double swing bridge in Odense Municipality, Denmark
Odins Bro is a swing bridge in Odense consisting of two sections that rotate sideways to allow ships to pass through the Odense Canal. The structure spans 200 meters in length and measures about 28 meters wide, accommodating four vehicle lanes and a bicycle path.
The bridge opened in 2014 and filled a critical gap in Odense's ring road system. It connected the northwestern and northeastern parts of the city and significantly improved traffic flow across the region.
The bridge is named after Odin, the chief god in Norse mythology, connecting modern infrastructure with ancient tradition. This link to the past is woven into Danish culture and appears throughout the country's places and buildings.
The bridge normally carries traffic across the canal but rotates regularly when ships need to pass through. Visitors should expect occasional traffic stops when the rotating sections move to allow waterway access.
Each rotating section is equipped with advanced mechanical systems and ranks among Europe's largest swing bridge segments. The impressive engineering is visible in how smoothly and precisely these massive structures move when activated.
