Møllerup, Manor house in Feldballe parish, Denmark.
Møllerup is a three-wing manor house in Feldballe parish, in eastern Jutland, sitting northwest of Ebeltoft. Its walls are built with long, narrow monk bricks resting on granite stone foundations.
Excavations in 1920 under the main building uncovered medieval remains of a castle built by Stig Andersen in the 13th century. The site was gradually transformed over the following centuries into the manor house that stands today.
A traditional Danish folk song tells the story of Marsk Stig and his wife meeting at this very spot. Visitors walking the grounds today can feel the weight of that old story in the stones around them.
The property now operates as an inn, so visitors can experience the historic setting without any special access requirements. Coming by car is the most practical option, as the grounds offer enough parking space on site.
The monk bricks used in the manor walls closely match those of the nearby Feldballe Church, pointing to a shared building tradition in this part of Jutland. Most visitors notice the bricks without realizing they tell the same story as the church just down the road.
