Lake Stubbe, Protected lake in Syddjurs Municipality, Denmark.
Lake Stubbe is a large freshwater lake in Syddjurs Municipality with relatively shallow depths and broad flat shores lined with natural vegetation. The water body is fed by several streams and ultimately drains into the Mølleåen river.
The lake formed thousands of years ago as a glacial inlet connected to the sea but gradually separated and became a freshwater body. Official protection status was granted in 1963.
The lake serves as a key birdwatching destination where the Danish Ornithological Society operates a public observation tower on the northern shore. Visitors can watch migratory and local bird species from this vantage point, especially during migration seasons.
The southern shore can be reached via an unpaved road that connects to woodland trails for walking and nature exploration. The terrain is easy to navigate on foot, though sturdy footwear is recommended.
The lake is part of Mols Bjerge National Park and represents a rare ecosystem in Denmark formed from glacial processes. Its combination of shallow waters and surrounding woodlands creates an environment that few other Scandinavian water bodies match.
