Skandinavisk Dyrepark, Wildlife park in Djursland, Denmark
Skandinavisk Dyrepark is a wildlife park on natural terrain housing hundreds of animals from species native to Nordic regions. The grounds contain habitats designed for deer, bears, moose, and many other creatures from northern landscapes.
The park was founded in 1994 under the name Hjortenes verden, meaning World of Deer. The name later changed to reflect the wider range of Nordic animals now shown here.
The name reflects the focus on Nordic wildlife and shows how animals from this region hold a place in local identity. Visitors see how creatures live in spaces designed to echo their natural settings.
Paths throughout the park are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, with signs explaining animal behavior and characteristics. Wear comfortable shoes and plan for a full morning or afternoon, as the grounds cover a large area.
The polar bear area contains advanced facilities allowing these bears to display more natural behaviors than in many other facilities. Visitors are often surprised by the scale and design of this particular habitat when they encounter it.
