Tizi Ouzou Province

Tizi Ouzou is a province in northern Algeria characterized by mountainous terrain with deep valleys and ridges. It comprises 67 municipalities spread across 21 administrative districts connected by a developed road network.

The province formed through administrative organization and underwent major changes in 1984 when a neighboring territory separated. This reorganization created the district structure that exists today.

The region carries a strong Berber identity visible in how people dress, celebrate together, and prepare traditional dishes that vary from village to village. This cultural connection shapes daily life and local gatherings throughout the province.

The mountainous landscape means travel between towns takes time and sturdy footwear is useful for exploring. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions for visiting and walking through the terrain.
