Endla Nature Reserve

Endla Nature Reserve is a protected area covering over 10,000 hectares in central Estonia with mires, bogs, karst springs, and small streams. The reserve spans four municipalities and includes observation towers and trails that let visitors explore the wetland landscape.

The reserve was established in 1985 to protect the karst formations and wetlands of the Pandivere Highlands. This designation reflects Estonia's early commitment to preserving its distinctive water and bog ecosystems.

The observation towers and marked trails let visitors experience the moorlands and spring systems that define this landscape. Walking through these paths, you notice how water shapes everything here, from the vegetation to the ground beneath your feet.

You need to book a visit to the reserve center ahead of time to get information about hiking trails and natural features. The flat terrain works well for leisurely walks, but wear sturdy shoes and bring rain gear because the ground is wet and boggy year-round.

The Norra-Oostriku spring system within the reserve is Estonia's largest, feeding water to the Põltsamaa River throughout the year. These powerful natural springs are an uncommon feature in the region and shape the ecology of the entire area.
