Kabala Manor, Historical manor in Pilistvere parish, Estonia
Kabala Manor is a three-story manor house in Pilistvere parish featuring a main building with service spaces on the ground floor and living quarters on the upper levels. The structure was completed in 1774 and displays early-classical architectural characteristics.
The von Uexküll family built the structure in the 17th century as a symbol of their regional influence and estate management. Subsequent ownership by the von Liphart and von Vietinghoff families reflected changing periods of agricultural and administrative activity on the lands.
The grounds feature a baroque garden layout with an oval forecourt, while two large oak trees frame the front of the main building. These trees have become part of the visual identity that visitors notice immediately upon arrival.
The building has served as an educational institution since 1923 and currently houses the Retla-Kabala School as an active campus. Visitors should verify in advance when the grounds are accessible, as it remains a working school facility.
The von Vietinghoff family commissioned a Neo-Gothic funeral chapel approximately three kilometers from the main residence, now remaining as a ruin. This separate structure demonstrates the extent of the family's wealth and the importance they placed on commemorating their deceased.
