Kanepi Church, Lutheran church in Kanepi, Estonia
The brick church features a tall spire with a morning star at its peak and contains a pseudo-Gothic altar with paintings from 1857.
Friedrich Siegel designed this church, which replaced a wooden structure and underwent construction from 1804 to 1810, with restoration after lightning damage in 1831.
The church contains nationally protected wooden candlesticks from 1810 and an eighteenth-century birch wood armchair, representing Estonian religious craftsmanship.
Visitors need to make advance arrangements to tour the church, which maintains its status as an active Lutheran worship center in Põlva County.
The altar painting titled 'Christ on the Cross' by A. Bauer stands as a central artistic element within the church interior since 1857.
