Pärnu Castle

Pärnu Castle is a medieval fortress along the Pärnu River in this Baltic port city. Today visitors can see remaining walls and towers, including sections that preserve the underground chambers and passages of the original structure.

The fortress was built in the 15th century initially to serve as a prison with cells dug deep underground. It played a role in Pärnu's development as a medieval trade center along the Baltic coast.
