Ammende Villa, Art Nouveau hotel monument in Pärnu, Estonia
Ammende Villa is a two-story Art Nouveau building with ornate exterior details, symmetrical lines, and decorative elements throughout. Inside are spacious halls, elegant salons, and seventeen guest rooms that retain much of their original furnishings and finishes.
The building was constructed in 1904 as a wedding gift from a wealthy merchant and designed by architects Mieritz & Gerasimov from Saint Petersburg. During the Soviet era, it served multiple purposes including a casino, club, health facility, and dental clinic before its transformation.
The name comes from Hermann Leopold Ammende, a merchant who commissioned this home as a wedding gift for his daughter. The spaces inside still reflect the social role it played as a gathering place for Pärnu's upper class.
The villa sits near the beach and Pärnu's old town, making it easy to reach on foot from the city center. Parking is available on site along with a restaurant, and rooms are spread between the main house and a separate Gardener's House nearby.
In the 1990s, two Estonian entrepreneurs chose to transform this neglected mansion into a luxury hotel while carefully preserving its original period furnishings and design. This renovation saved the building from decay and turned it into one of the coast's most distinctive hotels.
