Kawe kelder, Restaurant basement in central Tallinn, Estonia
The basement dining venue occupies the ground floor of a former chocolate factory building at Pärnu maantee 22 in Tallinn city center.
Built in 1924 according to architect Artur Perna's design, the three-story building served as a warehouse for the Kawe chocolate factory until 1939.
The building's facade held protected historical monument status from 1995 to 2002, reflecting its importance in Estonian architectural heritage.
The restaurant specializes in traditional meat soups like Seljanka, which combines pork, beef, sausages, pickled cucumbers, and sour cream.
During Soviet occupation from 1940 to 1941, the basement contained 14 detention cells used by the Estonian SSR Internal Affairs Commissariat.
