Port Said Governorate

Port Said Governorate extends across both sides of the Suez Canal, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the African and Asian continents through its territory.

Established in 1860 at a site called Farma, the governorate developed rapidly during the construction of the Suez Canal to become a major maritime gateway.

The Port Said National Museum contains 9,000 artifacts spanning multiple periods, from ancient Egyptian dynasties through Greek, Roman, and modern times.

The governorate includes eight administrative regions covering 1,344 square kilometers, with Port Said city and Port Fuad serving as primary urban centers.

Natural gas reserves discovered off the coast in 2015 represent the largest deposit found in the Mediterranean Sea to date.
