Port Said Lighthouse

The Port Said Lighthouse stands at the entrance of the Suez Canal with an octagonal concrete structure that rises 56 meters above the Mediterranean waterfront. The tower is visible from across the harbor and marks the northern approach to one of the world's most important shipping routes.

The structure was completed in 1869 and stands directly connected to the opening of the Suez Canal. It was among the first projects worldwide to use reinforced concrete as a building material.

The lighthouse defines the harbor view of Port Said and reflects the city's connection to the sea. Visitors experience here how central maritime traditions remain to the local identity.

Visitors can climb the internal staircase and reach the observation area at the top for panoramic views of the harbor and canal entrance. Wear comfortable shoes and visit in the morning, as the midday sun becomes intense at this exposed location.

A large metal sphere sits at the lighthouse summit and functions as a meteorological instrument measuring wind direction and speed. Few visitors notice this detail, even though it shows how the structure continues serving maritime operations today.
