Aswan Dam, Dam in Egypt

The Aswan Dam, also known as the High Dam, is a massive embankment dam situated across the Nile River in Aswan, southern Egypt.

Constructed between 1960 and 1970, the Aswan Dam's primary function was to prevent the river's flooding, generate hydroelectricity and provide water for agriculture.

The dam has had significant cultural implications, leading to the displacement of Nubian people and the relocation of ancient monuments.

Today, it provides irrigation and electricity for the whole of Egypt and parts of Sudan.

The creation of Lake Nasser, one of the largest man-made lakes, was a result of the dam's construction.
