The Red Pyramid, also known as the North Pyramid, is the largest of the pyramids located at the Dahshur necropolis.
Built during the reign of Pharaoh Sneferu, it is considered the world's first successful attempt at constructing a 'true' smooth-sided pyramid.
The Red Pyramid gets its name from the reddish limestone used to build its core.
It is open to tourists and can be accessed through a narrow tunnel leading to the burial chambers.
Unlike most pyramids in Egypt, the Red Pyramid has a rare north-facing entrance.
