RCDE Stadium, Association football stadium in Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain.
The RCDE Stadium is an association football venue in Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain, where Espanyol Barcelona plays its home matches. The ground holds around forty thousand spectators and features a natural grass pitch surrounded by modern stands.
Construction began in spring 2003 and took several years, with the completed stadium opening in summer 2009 during a match against Liverpool. The facility replaced the old Sarrià ground, which the club had used for nearly seventy years.
The initials RCDE come from the full club name Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol, which reflects its Catalan roots and the use of Spanish language traditions. On match days, local families gather in the stands where the blue and white colours of the team create a visible identity across the seating areas.
The stadium sits around 20 minutes from central Barcelona and can be reached by Metro line L5, Tram lines T1 and T2, or regional train services. Guided tours of the ground are available most weekdays, except when a match day approaches or takes place.
In February 2011, the stadium recorded its highest attendance with over forty thousand spectators during a match against Real Madrid. This record remains unbroken, as most matches see a much lower crowd turnout.
