Sierra Blanca, Mountain range and conservation area in Málaga Province, Spain.
Sierra Blanca is a mountain range with its highest peak Pico del Lastonar reaching about 1,275 meters, located between Marbella and Sierra de las Nieves. The slopes display pale grey limestone formations and the entire area is protected as a Natura 2000 conservation site.
The mountain range formed through Alpine orogeny, creating limestone with distinctive karst features. These geological processes produced the caves and sinkholes that characterize the landscape.
The name Sierra Blanca comes from the pale limestone visible across the slopes where vegetation is sparse. The exposed light-colored rock defines how the mountains appear to visitors walking through the area.
Several hiking trails provide access to the peaks starting from Marbella, passing through the towns of Istán, Ojén, and Monda. Proper hiking boots are needed as the terrain is steep and rocky with exposed slopes.
The area contains several notable peaks such as Pico de la Concha and Salto del Lobo that are less famous than the main summit. These secondary mountains offer quieter hiking routes for those seeking less crowded paths.
