Camí de Cavalls, Long-distance coastal trail in Menorca, Spain.
The Camí de Cavalls is a coastal trail that circles Menorca for about 185 kilometers, connecting diverse landscapes along the way. The route passes through rocky coves, sandy beaches, and areas dotted with historical structures spread across the shoreline.
King James II of Mallorca ordered this path built in 1330 so mounted guards could patrol and defend against sea attacks. The route served as a strategic defense line along the island's entire coastline.
The trail passes by old watchtowers and small harbors that show how people here lived from the sea for centuries. In many spots, you can see how locals and visitors alike use this route to explore the coast and experience maritime traditions.
The route divides into 20 marked sections with red and white blazes, letting hikers tackle individual stages or walk the entire loop. Most sections are easy to navigate, though some terrain requires steady footing and proper hiking boots.
Parts of the northern section pass through the S'Albufera des Grau Natural Park, where hikers can spot rare bird species and marine animals. This area draws nature lovers who want to experience wetland wildlife while walking the trail.
