Tomás Perera de Castro transported the Cristo statue from Madrid to Tenerife in 1661, initially facing opposition from local inquisitors due to its biblical representation.
The sanctuary organizes celebrations throughout September, with the main event on September 14th marking the Day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
Mass services occur at 18:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, while weekend and holiday services take place at 09:00 and 11:00 throughout the year.
The statue depicts specific details including bleeding wounds, a skull under the left foot, and a snake holding an apple in its mouth.
