Sax

Sax is a municipality in Alicante Province that rises against a rocky ridge, with a castle crowning the highest point of the settlement. The town spreads across undulating terrain with traditional houses clustered around the fortification.

The area saw settlement dating back to the Bronze Age, with remains of Iberian necropolises and Roman villas discovered nearby. These early layers show the location maintained strategic importance across millennia.

The annual Moors and Christians festival in February draws crowds to the streets for parades and music celebrating a pivotal historical clash. Residents dress in traditional costumes and recreate scenes that remain central to how locals understand their past.

The municipality lies about 50 kilometers from Alicante and connects easily via public transportation, including train services to nearby towns. Visitors will find a modern medical facility on hand and can readily access walking paths through the surrounding forests.

The El Plano forest surrounding the area contains roughly one million pine trees, creating an extensive natural space for walking trails. This vast stand of trees makes the region an important habitat for local wildlife and plant life.
