Isla Mayor, municipality of Spain
Isla Mayor is a small municipality in Seville Province located in flat marshland next to the Guadalquivir river. The town was founded between 1920 and 1930 when settlers cleared the wetlands to grow rice and build homes.
Settlers arrived in the 1920s to transform marshland into rice fields. The town became independent in 1994 when it separated from La Puebla del Río to establish itself as its own municipality.
Isla Mayor was settled by people from Valencia who brought their customs and traditions to this region. These influences remain visible today in local festivals, food, and the way residents connect to farming and water.
The town is easily reached by car from Seville, passing through small villages like Coria and Puebla del Río along the way. Basic hotels and rural houses offer comfortable accommodation for visitors staying one night or longer.
The film Isla Minima was filmed mostly here, with scenes capturing the endless rice fields and winding waterways. Visitors can walk through the same locations where actors performed on screen.
