The Cathedral of the Holy Children Justo and Pastor is a Gothic church in central Alcalá de Henares with three naves covered by cross vaults. The side aisles feature tiercerons, and a central ambulatory follows Gothic architectural design principles.
History
The sanctuary was built on the site where two children were martyred in 304, with an initial chapel constructed in 414. Over the centuries, the structure underwent multiple reconstructions and evolved into the cathedral seen today.
Culture
The cathedral holds the rare status of Magistral church, meaning its canons must possess doctoral degrees in Theology. This distinction is shared with only one other church, Saint Peter's in Leuven.
