The cathedral features three naves covered with cross vaults, side naves with tiercerons, and a central ambulatory following Gothic architectural principles.
Built on the site of martyrdom of two children in 304, the initial chapel from 414 evolved through multiple reconstructions into the current cathedral structure.
The cathedral holds the designation of Magistral, requiring its canons to possess doctoral degrees in Theology, sharing this distinction with Saint Peter's of Leuven.
