Parque María Cristina, Municipal park in central Algeciras, Spain.
Parque María Cristina is a green space in central Algeciras with pathways connecting different areas beneath tall trees such as palms and acacias. The grounds are bordered by four main streets and feature traditional lampposts and seating areas that create a structured place to walk through and rest.
The green space was created in 1834 next to Fort Santiago barracks and was originally known as Paseo Cristina. Between 1929 and 1930, it took on a new form through the integration of private gardens and the installation of an iron fence along sections of its perimeter.
The park features benches decorated with Sevillian tiles that were placed here during the 1930s renovation period. These handcrafted details shape its appearance and reflect the style of that era.
The park is accessible from four main streets that make it easy to enter from various directions. Visitors will find that the flat layout and wide pathways provide easy access for everyone.
Original lampposts were relocated here from Plaza Alta in the 1930s, giving this space a historical character. These repurposed elements show how earlier city spaces found their second life in this setting.
