Morella Castle, Military fortress on hilltop in Castellón, Spain
The castle extends along natural rock formations with fourteen towers, six gateways, and walls stretching for two and a half kilometers around the perimeter.
The fortress has evolved through multiple civilizations since the third millennium BC, with Iberians, Romans, Visigoths, and Arabs each adding their architectural elements.
The castle incorporates the Governor's Palace, medieval prisons, and the Celoquia tower, which demonstrate the development of military architecture through different periods.
The castle opens daily from 11 AM to 7 PM during peak season, with general admission at 5 euros and reduced rates for seniors, students, and children.
Visitors access the castle through the bullring entrance and climb ninety steps to reach the Plaza de Armas, where mountain ranges stretch toward the Mediterranean.
