Cubillas Reservoir, lake in Andalusia, Spain
Cubillas Reservoir is a water body located roughly ten kilometers north of Granada, spanning the areas of Albolote and Atarfe. It extends across a considerable length with a maximum depth of around twenty meters and is ringed by green spaces.
The reservoir was built in a shallow valley and is fed by the Cubillas river. Over time, sediment accumulation has caused the water depth to gradually decrease.
The reservoir takes its name from the Cubillas river that feeds it and shapes its identity. It serves as a gathering place where locals come to spend time with family and friends while observing wildlife.
The north bank features a large shaded picnic area with a restaurant and bar overlooking the water. Visitors can walk along the shoreline, sit on benches, or participate in water sports such as windsurfing, canoeing, and jet skiing.
A waterfall on the east side plunges directly into the reservoir and can only be seen from the water itself. In springtime, bright red and orange poppy blooms cover the southern shores, creating a vivid contrast against the blue water.
