Chullo

Chullo rises to 2612 meters and is the highest point in Almería province, distinguished by distinctive rocky formations and pine-covered slopes. The landscape shows the characteristic structure of the Sierra Nevada with its steep mountain ridges and forested areas.

The mountain paths around Chullo have served since Roman times as routes for livestock migration, connecting seasonal grazing lands between the two provinces. These ancient passages shaped how the landscape was used and still influence movement through the mountain region today.

The mountain marks a natural boundary between Granada and Almería provinces, where shepherds have moved their flocks across the slopes for many years. This long-standing practice shapes how people use and value this mountain landscape today.

Hiking trails begin at Puerto de la Ragua station at 2041 meters and follow marked paths through pine forests to the summit. The round-trip distance covers approximately 9 kilometers, so bring proper hiking clothes and sturdy shoes designed for mountain terrain.
