Monastery of San Salvador de Lourenzá, Medieval monastery in Lourenzá, Spain
The stone monastery features a central church with a prominent dome and combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements throughout its structure.
Founded in the 10th century by Count Osorio Gutiérrez, the monastery underwent major renovations in the 17th century while maintaining its original religious purpose.
The monastery houses 4,000 books in its ancient library, including rare 16th-century prints and a collection of liturgical goldsmith pieces.
The monastery opens for guided tours, allowing visitors to explore the cloister, church, and library while learning about its architectural development.
The church facade serves as a smaller prototype of the Obradoiro facade at Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, designed by Fernando de Casas y Novoa.
