Henge de Roda, Neolithic henge in Barreiros, Spain.
Henge de Roda is a circular Neolithic monument consisting of two concentric stone walls with an outer ditch between them. The site measures roughly 50 meters across and includes a clearly defined northwestern entrance.
The site was discovered in 2006 during highway construction and dates back approximately 3,700 years. It stands as the first henge monument ever found on the Iberian Peninsula.
The monument shows how Neolithic people gathered for ceremonies and communal events in this region. The layout tells us something about the social habits and beliefs of those early Galician communities.
The location sits at the base of a mountain and is relatively easy to reach on foot. Visitors should be prepared for uneven ground and overgrown vegetation since the site is open to the elements.
A distinctive northwestern entrance is marked by what researchers believe may be a standing stone placed there on purpose. This particular positioning suggests the monument may have been aligned with astronomical or ceremonial significance.
