Santuari de la Mare de Déu de Monserrate d'Oriola, Baroque sanctuary in Orihuela, Spain.

The Santuari de la Mare de Déu de Monserrate d'Oriola is a baroque church built with a Latin cross plan that divides the space into a central nave and side chapels adorned with religious paintings and carved ornaments. The interior walls feature painted scenes and sculptural details, creating a richly decorated environment focused on the main altar.

An earthquake in 1748 damaged the previous temple on this site, leading to the construction of the current baroque building starting in 1750 and finishing in 1775. This reconstruction became a lasting symbol of faith and architectural achievement for the community.

This sanctuary is dedicated to the veneration of the Mother of God and has shaped local religious life for generations. Visitors can observe how the baroque interior and its religious artworks continue to serve as a focal point for community devotion today.

The sanctuary is conveniently located near the city center and can be reached on foot, though visitors should be aware of steps at the entrance. The surrounding plaza offers space to pause and take in the building's facade, and nearby streets hold other points of interest to explore.

The main altar features a baroque retable designed by José Puchol that displays religious figures central to local faith traditions, making it a focal point of artistic expression. The building also houses an organ built in 1872 by craftsman Juan Amezua, a remarkable example of 19th-century musical instrument construction that visitors often overlook.
