Karakate

Located in the Irukurutzeta Range of the Basque Mountains, Karakate rises to an elevation of 749 meters with a prominence of 17 meters.

Archaeological excavations in 2016 revealed the remains of a Roman military camp at the summit, including defensive structures and fortification elements.

The mountain, also known as Muneta or Kortazar, holds significance in Basque territorial heritage as part of the traditional mountain network of Gipuzkoa.

Several marked trails lead to the summit from different starting points, offering hikers clear routes through the natural landscape of northern Spain.

From its position at coordinates 43°11′33″N 02°24′53″W, the summit provides views of both Eibar and Elgoibar municipalities in the Basque region.
