Construction began in 1898 under the direction of French architect Henri Grandpierre, who selected stone materials from the Montgrí region. The palace emerged during a period when Barcelona was modernizing its urban identity and combining neoclassical design with urban expansion.

The building now serves as headquarters for the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, contributing to regional cultural development.
