Acantilado del Asperillo

Acantilado del Asperillo is a sandy cliff formation along the coast of Almonte in southern Spain. The tall walls of sediment and clay rise above the shoreline and display distinct colored layers from different periods of geological formation.

The cliffs formed through the gradual deposit of sediments over many thousands of years. The visible layers record past changes in sea level and climate conditions that affected the coastal landscape.

The cliffs integrate into the broader Doñana ecosystem, providing scientists with valuable data about environmental changes across multiple generations.

The cliff is best viewed from nearby beaches or walking paths in the surrounding area. Visitors should keep their distance from the cliff face as the walls are actively eroding and falling sand presents hazards.

The walls display natural color patterns in shades of orange, white, and black created by minerals and organic materials in the layers. This variation makes each section of the cliff visually distinct and worth examining closely.
