Almonte

Located 50 kilometers from Huelva city, Almonte extends over 861 square kilometers with an elevation of 75 meters above sea level.

The settlement developed from a Roman site called Alostigi in the 5th century BC, where ancient inhabitants operated a fishing factory at Cerro del Trigo.

The Ermita de Santo Cristo, formerly known as Ermita de San Sebastian, represents fifteenth-century religious architecture in the Plaza del Cristo.

The municipality maintains strong agricultural activities, producing wines, cereals, and vegetables, while operating a dedicated 1000-square-meter wine museum on Avenida de la Juventud.

The territory includes sections of Doñana National Park, Europe's largest natural reserve, and the extensive Matalascañas beach along the Atlantic coast.
