Ponte do Milenio, Modern bridge in Ourense, Spain
The Millennium Bridge spans 277.8 meters across the Minho River with dual vehicle lanes and a circular pedestrian walkway rising 22 meters above water.
The bridge construction began in 1999 after the closure of the Old Bridge to vehicles, and opened on September 1st, 2001 following 28 months of work.
The structure, designed by architect Álvaro Varela de Ugarte, incorporates an elliptical shape that earned it the nickname Bridge of the Seagull among local residents.
The concrete and steel bridge features four traffic lanes divided into two directions, complemented by dedicated pedestrian paths on both sides.
The construction process created a permanent wave in the Minho River, now known as the Millennium Wave, which serves as a location for water sports.
