Ponte do Milenio

Ponte do Milenio is a modern concrete bridge in Ourense that crosses the Minho River and stretches more than 275 meters long. The structure has several lanes for vehicle traffic and features a pedestrian path alongside for those traveling on foot.

Construction started in 1999 after the old bridge closed to vehicle traffic, and the new bridge opened in 2001. The project took roughly two years and represented a major shift in how the city managed its river crossing.

Local residents call this bridge the Bridge of the Seagull because of its curved shape that resembles a seagull in flight. This informal nickname shows how people have given the structure its own identity in the community.

The bridge is open to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic and connects two parts of the city. During rain or wind, the walkway can become slippery, so it helps to walk carefully and watch your footing.

The water beneath the bridge forms a permanent wave-like pattern that draws people who practice water sports. This natural current resulted from how the bridge was built and became an unexpected gathering spot for kayakers and surfers.
