Castillo de Torredonjimeno

Castillo de Torredonjimeno is a castle set on elevated ground with stone walls and watchtowers that overlook the countryside of Jaen province. The ruins are accessible via marked paths equipped with information panels describing the architectural features and historical background.

The fortress developed during the Visigothic period and later served as a defensive structure during the Reconquista. It protected the region from military threats throughout medieval times.

The castle grounds are connected to the Visigothic period through the discovery of the Torredonjimeno Treasure, which contained royal crowns and religious artifacts. These findings show that the site held great importance for the ruling classes of that era.

The site is accessible on foot with marked paths throughout the ruins and informational signage for orientation. The elevated location can be strenuous in hot weather, so bringing water and sun protection is advisable.

A hidden chamber at this site was discovered in 1926 containing the Torredonjimeno Treasure, which included gold crosses and precious stones. The cache remained undisturbed for over 1,000 years due to its concealment.
