Astrophysical Observatory of Javalambre, Astronomical research center in Arcos de las Salinas, Spain

The Astrophysical Observatory of Javalambre is a research center positioned at 1957 meters elevation with two main telescopes equipped with advanced optical filters and panoramic instrumentation. The high altitude provides clear conditions for scientific observations throughout the year.

Scientists identified Sierra de Javalambre as a suitable location for astronomical observations in the 1980s. Research began in 1992 with a 25-centimeter telescope and grew into a major research facility.

The Galáctica center nearby offers educational programs where visitors can access telescopes and learn about astronomy throughout the year. People come here to discover the night sky and understand how scientists study it.

The mountain location ensures excellent observation conditions, especially on clear nights away from light pollution. Visitors should prepare for cool temperatures and bring warm clothing when exploring the site.

The facility houses JPCam, a specialized instrument with 14 high-efficiency sensors that capture detailed sky images through 56 different optical filters. This technical equipment enables research comparable to major observatories worldwide.
