Cinema Goya

Cinema Goya is an Art Deco movie theater with a white facade displaying geometric patterns and decorative details characteristic of 1940s design. The building stands near the city center of Alcoy and retains its original architectural features from that period.

The cinema opened its doors in November 1949, bringing modern entertainment to Alcoy during the post-war period. It remained in operation until closing in 1993 after serving the community for more than four decades.

During its years of operation, the cinema was among the last active theaters in Alcoy as other venues gradually disappeared. It served as a gathering place where residents came together to watch films and spend their evenings.

The building is located in central Alcoy and is easy to reach on foot from the main areas of the city. The historic facade is well visible from the street, making it simple to view the architectural details without barriers or obstruction.

In 1978 a bomb exploded in the restrooms during a film premiere, yet the screening continued undisturbed. This remarkable incident became a little-known part of the cinema's history.
