Cinema Goya, Art Deco movie theater in Alcoy, Spain
Cinema Goya stands as a prominent entertainment venue with a white facade featuring geometric Art Deco patterns and decorative elements from the 1940s architectural period.
The theater first opened its doors on November 16, 1949, with the screening of 'La mies es mucha' and operated continuously until its closure in June 1993.
During its active years, this cinema remained the final operating theater among twelve establishments that existed in mid-twentieth century Alcoy.
The structure maintains its original location near the center of Alcoy, where the city council has committed to protecting its historical facade for future generations.
In 1978, the cinema gained notoriety when a bomb exploded in its restrooms during the premiere of 'La portentosa vida del Pare Vicent', yet the screening continued.
