Abrigo de Bacinete I, Archaeological cave with prehistoric art in Los Barrios, Spain

Abrigo de Bacinete I is a rock shelter with prehistoric paintings located in Los Alcornocales Natural Park near Los Barrios. Its stone walls display various patterns and figures from ancient times that were etched or painted directly into the rock.

The rock shelter dates back to prehistoric times when people lived here and created their artworks directly in the stone. It received official protection status as a cultural monument in 1985 after archaeologists documented its artworks and archaeological findings.

The rock paintings here show how early people recorded their thoughts and stories on stone. The patterns and figures tell of the artistic skills and daily life of these ancient communities.

Access is restricted and requires prior permission from the Los Barrios tourism office, as the site is located in a protected area. It is advisable to contact ahead to arrange guides and get detailed directions to reach this remote location.

The rock shelter complex sits deep within the cork oak forests of the natural park and forms part of the larger Tajos de Bacinete group. This location seamlessly combines exploration of ancient artworks with discovery of one of the region's most wildlife-rich forest landscapes.
