Teucer, Bronze statue in Plaza de San José, Spain
The Teucer statue, measuring 6 meters in height and weighing 2 tonnes, stands above the clock of the former Provincial Savings Bank building.
Teucer, who fought in the Trojan War alongside his brother Ajax and cousin Achilles, established Pontevedra after following a mermaid named Leucoiña.
The statue depicts a young naked athlete holding a modernist bow, representing the mythical founder of Pontevedra through contemporary artistic expression.
Visitors can locate the bronze sculpture at coordinates 42°25′45.0″N and 8°38′45.3″W, anchored with a steel spike to ensure stability.
The statue connects to other Teucer representations in Pontevedra, including one at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major showing him with a cudgel.
