Venta de Aragoncillo

Venta de Aragoncillo is a former mountain inn with thick sandstone walls and two supporting buttresses on its front, topped by a roof of clay tiles. The structure houses separate sections for dining, storage, and animal stables all within a compact footprint.

The inn operated to serve travelers on mountain trade routes until the 1930s brought significant disruption. It transformed into a military position during the Spanish Civil War and never fully returned to its original purpose afterward.

The building reflects how mountain travelers once moved through a working inn, with spaces naturally organized for eating, resting, and caring for animals. This arrangement tells the story of daily life on old trade routes through the region.

The building sits along the N-211 road at kilometer 43 and is visible from a distance but challenging to reach due to its remote mountain location. Plan visits carefully and gather local information beforehand to understand its current condition and access situation.

A chimney fire in 1941 caused damage that set the building on a path toward decline as an active inn. This mishap became a turning point in the structure's transition from a working hospitality space to a historical remnant.
