Villa romana de Vinamargo, Roman archaeological site in Castelló de la Plana, Spain
Villa romana de Vinamargo is a Roman structure from the first century in the area of Castelló de la Plana. It displays three connected courtyards surrounded by rooms for living and working, plus bathing areas equipped with heating and water supply systems.
This site was established in the middle of the first century and developed over several generations as new sections were constantly added. Over time its functions and structures shifted until occupation finally ceased in the fifth century.
The villa housed a wealthy family whose daily life unfolded between living quarters and working spaces tied to farming. Visitors can see how olive oil was produced and where craftspeople labored, revealing how agriculture and family life were deeply connected.
The site is easily reached on foot and offers guided tours plus information materials on location. Wearing comfortable shoes and sun protection is wise since you will be walking around the excavated structures.
Inside one of the residential rooms, the skeleton of a child was found, suggesting funeral rituals may have taken place there. This discovery shows that religious practices and family life were closely interwoven.
