Château de Xaintrailles

Château de Xaintrailles is a castle featuring a 13th-century keep, a residential building on the north side, and two distinctive corner towers linked by a western wing. The site has been partially modified over the centuries but still shows the main elements of its original layout.

The castle was founded in the 13th century and later expanded through Renaissance renovations and additions. It became linked to Jean Poton de Xaintrailles, an important military leader who died in 1461.

The building displays elements from different building periods, ranging from medieval defensive features to Renaissance modifications with distinctive decorative details. These various construction phases remain visible in the structure and tell the story of how the place changed over time.

The site is accessible from the outside and allows you to walk around the buildings to see the different architectural phases. It is best visited during dry weather, as ground conditions can be variable.

During the 15th century, the windows of the original medieval keep were enlarged to allow more light and comfort. These later openings remain visible today and create an interesting contrast with the original structure.
