Pont du Pertuiset, Cable-stayed bridge in Unieux, France
The Pont du Pertuiset is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Loire River with a distinctive Y-shaped pylon rising 48 meters above the deck. The structure spans 132 meters with a 14-meter-wide roadway connecting the two valley sides.
The first bridge at this location was built in 1842 as a toll structure measuring 106 meters long and only 2.2 meters wide. The current modern structure replaced it in 1989 with a much wider roadway suited to contemporary traffic needs.
The bridge carries the official name Pont du Bicentenaire de la Révolution, chosen when it opened in 1989 to commemorate 200 years since the French Revolution. This naming reflects how the structure became a symbol of national pride for the local communities it connects.
The bridge is located on Avenue Roger Salengro and connects the Ondaine Valley with Saint-Maurice-en-Gourgois across the Loire River. Access is clearly marked and the structure accommodates regular traffic throughout the year without seasonal restrictions.
This crossing point was historically important for trade between the valleys, with ferries transporting travelers across the Loire before the first bridge was built. Today's modern structure stands where people have depended on river crossings for centuries.
