Equestrian statue of Joan of Arc, Bronze equestrian statue at Place Saint-Augustin, Paris, France
The equestrian statue of Joan of Arc stands in front of Saint-Augustin Church at Place Saint-Augustin. It depicts the figure on horseback holding the reins with her right hand while her left arm raises a sword high above.
French artist Paul Dubois created this bronze sculpture, which the French government purchased and placed at this site in 1895. The work belongs to a series of multiple castings produced for different locations.
The sculpture shows Joan of Arc as a warrior whose image still represents courage and resistance to French visitors. People see her here both as a military fighter and as a saint worthy of reverence.
The monument sits on a busy plaza in front of a well-known church, making it easy to spot. The area is well-served by public transit and surrounded by shops and cafes for a comfortable visit.
The bronze foundry E. Gruet Jeune was known for producing high-quality art castings and worked with leading French artists. This work displays the craftsmanship and technical skill that specialized foundries could achieve in the 1890s.
