The square marks the location where King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were initially buried after their execution during the French Revolution in 1793.
At the center of the square stands the Chapelle Expiatoire, constructed under Louis XVIII's orders and inaugurated in 1826 to commemorate the royal couple.
The park is accessible via 29 Rue Pasquier and connects to multiple metro lines, including lines 8, 12, and 14 at Madeleine station.
This space was formerly the Madeleine Cemetery, where numerous individuals executed by guillotine during the Revolution were laid to rest.
