Built in 1930 under Maritime Minister Georges Leygues, the building sustained minor damage during the 1944 Toulon bombings of World War II.
The dining room walls display murals by French Navy official painters, including works by Lucien Simon and Charles Fouqueray depicting oriental cities and birds.
The building received historical monument status in February 2018, marking its protection as a significant architectural structure in the Mediterranean region.
Each room in the Naval Circle was assigned to a specific painter, creating a coordinated collection of maritime-themed artworks throughout the building.
