Janja Gora, Rural settlement in Plaški municipality, Croatia
Janja Gora is a small rural settlement in the Plaški municipality within Karlovac County in central Croatia. It spreads across rolling terrain with roughly 90 residents living in an agricultural landscape characterized by farms and natural surroundings.
The settlement was previously known by the name Tuk before administrative reorganization brought changes to its governance. It was separated from the municipality of Ogulin and incorporated into the newly formed municipality of Plaški.
The settlement reflects strong ties to Serbian Orthodox traditions, with the community belonging to the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of upper Karlovac. This faith shapes how residents observe holidays and celebrate important moments throughout the year.
This small settlement is accessible by local roads connecting it to larger towns nearby. As a rural area, visitors should expect limited facilities and having a car makes exploring the wider countryside much easier.
Omar Pasha, a notable Ottoman military commander, was born in this small settlement in 1806 and would go on to lead campaigns across multiple territories. His emergence from such a remote place makes the village an unexpected birthplace of a historical figure known far beyond the region.
