Dolina Dretulje, Natural reserve in Plaški, Croatia
Dolina Dretulje is a protected natural area in Plaški where a river creates extensive wetlands surrounded by gentle slopes. The valley supports a diverse range of plant communities adapted to its marshy conditions.
The area was recognized in 2013 as a site of community importance under European nature protection law. This designation was part of an international effort to protect natural networks.
This valley is a habitat for rare plant species and was designated a protected area because of their presence. Many of the plants here are found nowhere else in Croatia.
The valley is easily accessible from Plaški and has trails for exploring the wetlands. Spring and summer are ideal times to visit when trails are drier and plants are in bloom.
The valley contains the last alkaline fens in Croatia, a rare ecosystem in Europe that supports specialized plant species. This habitat type has nearly disappeared from the continent, making the site especially important for conservation.
