Border Region

The Border Region comprises counties Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, and West Sligo located in northwestern Republic of Ireland. These five counties together form a significant part of the country's larger Northern and Western Region.

This area received its statistical classification as a NUTS region in 1999 with the code IE011 for regional development planning. The code was updated to IE041 in 2016 to reflect the country's administrative reforms.

This area is known for its traditional Irish music and dance, with local festivals bringing communities together throughout the year. Both Irish and Anglo-Irish cultural influences shape the way people here live and celebrate their heritage today.
